Entering the weekend, I had high expectations of Snetterton following on from Croft and through practice my pace was solid to back this up. In qualifying the guys at Century Motorsport had done a great job in preparing the car and it felt awesome to drive. My lap in qualifying was a really nice lap, but it was only good enough for P3 on the grid.

Race 1:

Race 1 was unfortunate for me. Off of my 3rd place grid slot, I held position off the start but got held up massively in turn 2 when an out of control car came up the grass and forced me to take avoiding action. From that point on, I was constantly in battles with slower cars and despite managing to clear all of them to cross the line P5, I lost too much time to the front guys to finish where my pace was capable of finishing. Unfortunately for me though, a post-race penalty demoted me to the back of the grid for race 2.

Race 2:

As the lights for race 2 went out, the entire field blasted down to turn 1 in now soaking conditions. For the first few laps the visibility was atrocious as was the standing water. As a result of which, progress was slow initially and a safety car due to the driving conditions halted my progress on lap 4. As soon as the safety car came in though, my charge began. I made great progress passing the majority of the field to move from P13 as the safety car came in, to P5 at the flag with 2nd fastest lap.

Race 3:

Race 3 was unfortunate also for me. In the holding area before we went out onto the grid, the previous rain stopped and in its place was a warm breeze now which would dry the track up quickly but the track was still wet for the time being. The top 5 (me starting 5th) all opted for wet tyres on a drying track. Unfortunately, the track dried a lot quicker than everyone expected and come lap 5 of the race, the track was really unsuited for the wet tyres we were on and my pace dropped substantially. There were 3 drivers who’d chosen slicks and they ended up getting the call right and even though I gave it my all, and defended very well I managed to bring the car home P7 on a shot set of wets!

I drove well this weekend and felt as though the results didn’t reflect the standard I’d raced at. As always, I’m improving all the time. The next round is at Rockingham in just 3 weeks’ time and as usual, I’ll be giving it my all to get that breakthrough win!
